Pupils at Eden Special Educational Needs (SEN) School in Macclesfield chose to honour a very special member of their learning group when looking to recognise World Kindness Day recently. Panny, the comfort toy, has been an increasingly popular source of support for children at the Cheshire SEN school, part of the Family Care Group, and has become a big hit with both pupils and staff there.

When pupils were asked who they would like to recognise for acts of kindness towards them as part of World Kindness Day, the cuddly hero was voted the immediate first choice as their “Kindness Hero”. To show their appreciation for him children subsequently designed a series of special kindness hearts which were then put on display to mark their gratitude to their special team member.

Amy Shufflebotham, School Administrator at Eden School, said: “It’s easy to forget that a simple comfort toy can play a massive part in a young child’s life and can provide a vital source of support when things can become stressful for them.

“When we were looking to mark World Kindness Day, we asked the pupils here who they would like to nominate as a kindness her,o and Panny was the overwhelming choice.

“He provides an important role at the school, and we would like to see him as a kind of model for the children to appreciate the importance of kindness towards others in their daily lives.”

Real stories, real impact

Before fostering we worked full time. I worked for a global company and Damian worked as a manager for a truck parts company. In addition, we also ran a children’s club for 9 years at a local church we attended near a local council estate.
