Join Family Care Fostering in celebrating The Fostering Network's annual campaign Foster Care Fortnight 2024! Running from Monday 13 May - Sunday 26 May 2024, this years theme is #FosteringMoments.

Foster Care Fortnight is the UK's biggest foster care awareness campaign that showcases the commitment, passion and dedication of foster carers. It also supports fostering services like ourselves, to highlight the need for more foster carers across the UK.

This years theme allows our foster carers and staff members to delve deep into their fostering journey and share their best #FosteringMoments that have stood out to them.

Let's take a look at some of the fostering moments that our foster carers have shared with us:

Our foster carers #FosteringMoments:

''Our first young person had been with us about 3 months, and we went to seaside, the young person was extremely excited, the first steps on the beach felt funny as the sand moved. Then as the child walked to the sea edge they stopped in awe and said, 'Wow isn't it big'. A ten year old experiencing the sea for the first time.''

''Rushing once to go out on an activity I ask our young person (only been with us a couple of weeks) to go up and get a jacket from their wardrobe. They were gone a while, I followed upstairs to see what was happening and the young person was stood in the middle of their room just looking around. I asked if there was anything wrong and they replied, 'what's a wardrobe?'. ''

''We had 2 brothers stay with us for around 1.5 yrs. They eventually went to live in Australia so when the time came, they asked me if I would accompany them to the airport, which I did.

I was strong and promised myself I wouldn't cry, just as they were about to leave and go through security the youngest of the boys came to me and said " Thanks Jen ,you showed me what a proper mum should be like , even though we are from different back grounds you showed me that you cared anyway and gave me the gift of loving a Sunday roast"

The eldest boy then approached and said " Yaa ..you're alright you are". It didn't get much better than that …I cried all the way home from the airport.''

How to show your support for Foster Care Fortnight 2024:

  • Foster Care Walk 2024

One of the biggest events is the Foster Walk 2024, where you can walk alongside hundreds of people from different communities across the UK. Whether you walk with your friends, family, neighbours, or colleagues, you'll be making a positive impact on the lives of children and young people in care.

Did you know that there are currently 70,000 children and young people living in foster care throughout the UK? By taking part in Foster Walk 2024, you'll help raise support and helping to make fostering the best it can be.

The Foster Walk can be completed at any time during the Foster Care Fortnight (Monday 13 May - Sunday 26 May 2024.)

  • Share your own #FosteringMoments online:

If you're a foster carer, work within the sector, or have experience of being in foster care, share your story on social media using the hashtag #FosteringMoments. Help us make as much noise on social media as possible!

This is a great way to raise awareness about the importance of fostering and to show the positive impact it can have on young people's lives.

  • Attend our fostering information events:

At Family Care Fostering, our recruitment team hold free in-person and virtual fostering information events for anyone to attend. These events are a great way to meet our friendly fostering team and have any questions you have about fostering answered.

This year, we are really excited to be attending larger events such as Birmingham Pride, Etruria Canal Festival, Liverpool Pride, Lancashire Game Show and The Black Country Boating Festival! Make sure you pop along, have a nice day out and meet our fostering team!

Real stories, real impact

Before fostering we worked full time. I worked for a global company and Damian worked as a manager for a truck parts company. In addition, we also ran a children’s club for 9 years at a local church we attended near a local council estate.
