Telford school recognised with ARC Bronze Award for trauma-informed practice
Rodenhurst School, based on Rodenhurst Lane, has achieved the ARC (Attachment Research Community) Bronze Award in recognition of its commitment to embedding attachment-aware and trauma-informed practice across the school.
Part of the Family Care Group, which provides fostering, education and care services for children and young people, Rodenhurst School supports pupils aged 6 to 16 with a range of special educational needs.
The ARC Bronze Award recognises schools that demonstrate a commitment to developing staff knowledge, embedding trauma-informed approaches and creating nurturing learning environments where pupils feel safe, understood and able to thrive.
The school has introduced a number of innovative measures recently including the introduction of a new £6,000 Forest School Garden facility at the site which now provides vital learning support for local children in a calming environment, allowing nature to play a central role in their learning.
The school's close collaboration with its therapeutic services team ensures that education, wellbeing and emotional development are fully integrated into each pupil's support, helping them to thrive both academically and personally.
Mat Barnett, Headteacher at Rodenhurst School, said: "This achievement marks an important milestone for us. Over the past year, the team at Rodenhurst has worked incredibly hard to develop our understanding and application of trauma-informed practice, ensuring that relationships, emotional safety and a sense of belonging remain at the heart of everything we do.
"We recognise that every child has their own unique experiences, strengths and challenges. Our approach is built on trusting relationships, emotional safety and helping every pupil feel understood, valued and ready to learn. This award reflects the dedication, compassion and commitment of our entire team in creating an environment where every child can thrive."
He added: "This is just the beginning of our ARC journey. We are committed to continually developing our practice and look forward to working towards the ARC Silver Award over the next academic year."
