Happy New Year! The decorations are packed away, the house is tidy, and you might be turning your attention to New Year's resolutions.
This is the time of year when we reflect on our hopes for the next 12 months. Many of us set goals like living healthier, learning new skills, or spending more time with loved ones. But what if this year, your resolution wasn't just about improving your own life-but changing someone else's?
What if 2025 is the year you become a foster carer?
As a foster carer, you can earn a competitive income and access benefits that might allow you to reduce your working hours-or even leave your current job entirely. This role offers the flexibility to achieve the work-life balance you've always wanted while making a meaningful impact on a child's life.
According to a report published by Ofsted in December 2024, there were 42,615 fostering households in England last year, compared to 45,370 in 2021. A total of 4,055 fostering households were approved during the year while 4,820 stopped fostering - an overall loss of 765 fostering households.
The Fostering Network has estimated that a further 6,500 foster families are needed in England to ensure all fostered children can live with the right family for them.
Foster carers provide vital support to some of the most vulnerable children and young people in the UK. Beyond offering safety and stability, foster carers form bonds, teach life skills, and help shape brighter futures. While fostering can be challenging, it is also incredibly rewarding.
This is a career where you can truly make a difference-helping children overcome adversity and build confidence. Unfortunately, the demand for foster carers continues to outpace supply.
By stepping forward in 2025, you can be part of the solution. Don't wait-get in touch for an informal, no-obligation chat today.
We are a family-owned fostering agency based in the Northwest and Midlands, with over 30 years' experience looking after children and young people. With Family Care, our foster parents benefit from unrivalled support packages, regular peer group support meetings, and an extensive training programme to name just a few benefits.
Throughout our fostering service, we use therapeutic approaches underpinned by The Secure Base model. The Secure Base model was developed through a range of research and practice dissemination projects led by Professor Gillian Schofield and Dr Mary Beek in the Centre for Research on Children and Families.
The model provides a framework for therapeutic caregiving which builds resilience and helps infants, children and young people move towards greater security. All of our foster carers are trained on this model and how to incorporate it into the care they provide to our young people.
Our in-house therapists are on hand to help guide our foster carers through any difficult behaviour they experience, using The Secure Base Model to offer a therapeutic response.
We're committed to improving lives-and we'd love for you to join our mission.
